However, the intricate web of their existence has been marred by instances of abuse and neglect that have far-reaching consequences. Both diligent and vital creatures, honeybees have faced mistreatment and neglect, underscoring the urgency of recognizing and rectifying our responsibilities towards these invaluable insects.

These honeybees have been captured and placed into strange contraptions to train them to smell explosives. Not only is this dangerous, but you can imagine how uncomfortable this would be. First, they are stolen from their hive and transferred to a lab. Then, they are frozen to slow down their movement and placed into a harness. After this, they are essentially held captive while being “trained” to smell explosives.

This YouTuber, who is a beekeeper, uploaded a video to share information on being stung by bees. He goes over the question “Do honeybees die when they sting?”. In the video, he showcases a time he was stung by a bee after moving a colony. Of course, this kills the bee.

Honeybee Sanctuaries was enlisted to check out twelve neglected honeybee hives for a client. You can see that the hives have been left alone for years and the bees have not been taken care of.

Many debate the use of smoke in beehives! Despite the claims that using smoke doesn’t harm the bees, it does temporarily affect their sense of smell. In turn, they cannot react how they normally would to impending danger.
