While the simple Crocs clog currently has a low carbon footprint, Crocs isn’t satisfied with its energy consumption just yet. They plan on focusing on incorporating more sustainable ingredients and packaging into their products and branding. The company will also invest in “resource use and innovative product afterlife solutions.”
Crocs plans to be a 100% vegan brand by the end of 2021 and is actively working on finishing developing their bio-based Croslite™ material. In 2020, 85% of all crocs were sold box-free. They are also donating thousands of unsold pairs of shoes, limiting the amount of landfill waste products by surplus products. Finally, 45% of “Croslite™ material production scrap” is being recycled, currently.
Offices and distribution centers will also receive an eco-friendly facelift as the company attempts to transition to renewable energy. Croc will make up for any remaining emissions by purchasing carbon credits.
Being vocal about inclusivity is also part of Croc’s mission.
“Taking action to reduce our environmental footprint by implementing more sustainable practices across our entire business is the right thing to do for Crocs,” says Andrew Rees, Crocs CEO. “As a company, we are deeply committed to accountability and we’re confident that we have the right team, the right innovations, and the right partners to help us achieve our net-zero ambitions by 2030.”
